Word ‘Trump’ spray-painted with swastika on Yale Law School steps

The word “Trump” was spray-painted along with a swastika on the steps outside of Yale Law School over the weekend, student newspaper Yale Daily News reported Tuesday.

The white graffiti was reportedly placed on the side entrance of the building Saturday night, an evening which lies between the two Jewish high holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

The spray paint was quickly covered up with black paint and a doormat on Sunday afternoon before being removed entirely, the outlet noted.{mosads}

Yale Law School Dean Heather Gerken issued a statement Monday denouncing the act as “utterly antithetical” to the school’s values. She added that there is no evidence that the swastika was painted by a member of the Yale community.

“Yale Law School has zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment of any kind, and symbols of hate have no place on our campus or in our society,” Gerken said. “We take an incident like this extremely seriously and are currently investigating.”

Rabbi Jason Rubenstein, Jewish chaplain at Yale, wrote in an email obtained by the student outlet that the probe is “relying on video footage from late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.”

Officials reportedly told the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life that there was no evidence that the incident was “part of a larger campaign.”

“[University administrators] very much see this as an attack not just on Yale’s Jewish community, but on Yale itself and its values, which is some of the most powerful consolation we can receive as we figure out what this mean for our community,” Rubenstein wrote.

The Hill has reached out to Yale Police Department and the Slifka Center for more information.
