Ex-CIA chief Brennan: Trump whistleblower ‘deserves our praise & gratitude’

Former CIA chief and vocal Trump critic John Brennan said Thursday he believes the person who filed a whistleblower complaint against President Trump “deserves our praise and gratitude.”

“Democrats & Republicans (those who have a conscience) need to work together to prevent desperate moves by Trump that could wreak further havoc,” Brennan tweeted.

The nine-page whistleblower complaint was shared with the public by the House Intelligence Committee earlier Thursday. It raises allegations about the July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which the leaders discussed former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

The allegations are the subject of the formal impeachment inquiry against Trump launched by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Tuesday.

Democratic lawmakers have slammed the president over the last week over the allegations, and some GOP lawmakers have also announced their alarm over the complaint, including Sen. Ben Sasse (Neb.) and Reps. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.) and Will Hurd (Texas).

Trump has spoken out multiple times about the allegations over the last week. He tweeted Thursday attacking House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

This is not the first time Brennan has spoken out to criticize Trump. After the president criticized top intelligence leaders earlier this year, Brennan said the move showed “the extent of [Trump’s] intellectual bankruptcy.”

Last year, Brennan called Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from Syria an example of his “impulsive and self-satisfying ‘gut.’”
