George Conway: If Trump pushed Ukraine to investigate Biden, he ‘should be impeached and removed from office’

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s husband George Conway said Thursday that if a report detailing President Trump’s involvement in pressuring Ukraine’s government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden is true, Trump should be impeached “without delay.”

The conservative lawyer and frequent critic of the president tweeted out a report from The Independent that detailed a phone call between Trump and Ukraine’s president suggesting that U.S.-Ukraine relations would improve if the Biden investigation was launched.

{mosads}The Independent reported Thursday that House lawmakers are looking into a July phone call between Trump and Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Trump allegedly pressured Zelensky to launch the probe.

Trump and his allies have been calling for months for an investigation into Biden’s connections to Ukraine following a New York Times report detailing how the former vice president allegedly threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees in 2016 until Ukraine removed a prosecutor looking in to a company at which his son served as a board member.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who serves as one of Trump’s attorneys, announced plans to go to Ukraine earlier this year to press for the investigation but eventually canceled his trip.

The Washington Post first reported late Wednesday evening that a whistleblower had filed a complaint with the intelligence community’s inspector general after Trump allegedly made a troubling “promise” to a foreign leader.

Trump has dismissed the Post’s report as “fake news.”

“Virtually anytime I speak on the phone to a foreign leader, I understand that there may be many people listening from various U.S. agencies, not to mention those from the other country itself. No problem!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

“Knowing all of this, is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader while on such a potentially ‘heavily populated’ call,” he continued. “I would only do what is right anyway, and only do good for the USA!”
