Georgia probation officer resigns after letting friend use gun, badge to get free snacks

A Georgia probation officer reportedly resigned and her friend was arrested on felony charges after the former officer let her friend borrow her badge and gun to get free snacks at a local gas station.

Brandi Green, who worked for the Department of Community Supervision in Gwinnett County, was at a gas station last week with her friend, 33-year-old Pektra LaQuiche Edgerton, when she allegedly let Edgerton borrow her gun and badge to go into a QuickTrip store while Green waited in the car, local station WSB-TV reports.

{mosads}While some stores give discounts or free food to first responders, Gwinnett County police officer JT Smith saw Edgerton using the badge to get free food and realized he didn’t recognize her, WSB-TV reports.

According to video of Smith’s body camera footage, Smith pulled over Edgerton’s car and saw she was still wearing the badge.

“Who do you work for?” Smith asked Edgerton, who replied that she worked for the Department of Community Supervision.

“Are you a police officer, or are you not a police officer?” Smith asked, according to the video.

“So, because a black person walks into a store with a badge and a gun it’s an issue?” Edgerton replied.

“It has nothing to do with you being black,” Smith said.

Edgerton admitted that she was not an officer and that her friend had let her borrow her credentials and weapon.

Green’s conduct triggered an internal investigation and she was suspended. She resigned on the same day, a Department of Community Supervision spokesman told WSB-TV.

Edgerton was arrested and charged with impersonating an officer. She was reportedly released after posting a $4,146 bond, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
