USWNT star gets offer to kick for NFL team: report

U.S. women’s soccer star Carli Lloyd has reportedly been approached by a number of teams in the NFL about possibly kicking for them nearly a week after a video of her kicking a 55-yard field goal at a Philadelphia Eagles practice went viral.

Multiple NFL teams, which were not identified, have approached Lloyd, with one team giving her the chance to be part of the roster and get preseason playing time, Fox Sports reports.

{mosads}Lloyd expressed interest but couldn’t accept one team’s offer, as its Thursday match-up conflicts with the U.S. women’s national team’s game against Portugal, according to Fox Sports. All 32 NFL teams play their final preseason exhibition games Thursday.

Lloyd would be the first woman to play in an NFL preseason game if she accepts an offer, Fox Sports reports.

“I think Carli is perfectly made out for a job like that. She loves the pressure,” Lloyd’s trainer, James Galanis, told Fox Sports. “We are thinking about what it would do to the sport itself, every sport at every level. She would be the first female that’s really playing with males, and what would it do to the whole equality [issue].”

The video, which has been shared dozens of times on Twitter, shows Lloyd successfully making the field goal while visiting an Eagles training session.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team, which took home the Women’s World Cup trophy in July, has been at the center of a battle for salaries equal to their male counterparts. The United States Soccer Federation has routinely paid male players far more than women, even though the men’s team has had far less on-field success.
