Man arrested after licking and replacing ice cream carton in Texas Walmart

A Texas man was arrested Thursday night after he was seen in a video opening a tub of Blue Bell ice cream in a Walmart, licking it and putting it back on the shelf.

D’Adrien Anderson, 24, who goes by “Dapper Don” on Facebook, posted a video Monday of himself standing in the freezer section at a Walmart in Port Arthur, Texas.

In the 19-second video captioned “Happy national soft ice cream day lmao #viral,” Anderson is seen taking a tub of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, licking it twice and then putting it back on the shelf as someone in the background tells him to “hurry up.”{mosads}

On Wednesday, Anderson posted another video on Facebook captioned “I love your ice cream #bluebell plz don’t ban me from buying it #im#sorry.”

The ice cream licking video has since gone viral with more than 130,000 views.

Walmart said surveillance cameras showed Anderson licking the tub and removing it from the shelf and buying it, local ABC affiliate KTRK reports.

The store still had to remove all of its Blue Bell ice cream, Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham told local television station station KFDM.

“If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke-it is not,” Walmart told KTRK in a statement.

Wortham issued a warrant for Anderson’s arrest Thursday morning and he turned himself in to police on Thursday night, according to USA Today.

Anderson has been charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000 if convicted.

He was released on $1,000 bond, according to local outlet KBMT. He told the outlet that he regretted licking the ice cream, saying he has also been fired from his job.

The incident comes after a teenage girl was arrested last month after posting a now-viral video on Twitter of herself licking a tub of Blue Bell ice cream in a Texas Walmart.

The teen’s video has since inspired a number of other copycats, including a 36-year-old Louisiana man who was arrested last month for filming a video of himself licking Blue Bell ice cream from the tub before putting it back on a store’s shelves.
