At least 2 dead in Mississippi Walmart shooting

A shooting at a Mississippi Walmart on Tuesday morning reportedly left at least two people dead and a police officer wounded.

Police responded to reports of an active shooter in Southaven, Mississippi’s third-largest city, according to CNN.

One person was found dead inside the store, while the second victim was found in the parking lot, Fox 13 reports.{mosads}

The suspect and the officer who responded to the scene were both shot and are being treated at nearby hospitals, DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco said.

The officer is expected to survive, while the suspect’s condition is not currently known, Rasco told Fox 13.

The names of the two people killed have not yet been released, and the motive for the shooting is unclear.

The city is home to some 49,000 residents and sits near the state’s border with Tennessee.

The shooting comes just two days after a 19-year-old man opened fire at a garlic festival in Gilroy, Calif., killing three people — a 6-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and a man in his 20s — and injuring at least 15 others.
