Thousands plan to storm Loch Ness the day after Area 51 raid: ‘Nessie can’t hide from us all’

After millions signed up for a Facebook event to “storm Area 51,” an event scheduled to take place the next day looks inspired by the UFO enthusiasts’ raid: storming Loch Ness.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 21,000 people had RSVP’d to a Facebook event called Storm Loch Ness, Nessie can’t hide from us all. More than 44,000 additional people say they’re interested.

“The time is now for us to find dat big boi,” the event says.

{mosads}The plan to raid Loch Ness — one of the largest bodies of water in the British Isles and known for reported sights of the legendary Loch Ness Monster — is scheduled to take place on Sept. 21, the day after the viral Sept. 20 Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us event, which has gained nearly 2 million signups.

Rumors and conspiracy theories surrounding whether a creature, dubbed Nessie, lives in Loch Ness have circled for centuries, but no concrete evidence has ever emerged.

“There’s really no need to ‘storm’ Loch Ness, given that it is open to the public 24/7, 365 days a year,” Gemma McDonald, a spokeswoman for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution — which monitors Loch Ness — told CNN.

Loch Ness has an average temperature of 42 degrees and can have towering waves, and “conditions deteriorate quickly,” making it hard for a rescue mission if people go too far trying to find the monster, McDonald added.

The Sept. 20 event is set to take place at Area 51 in Nevada, where many conspiracy theorists have long believed the U.S. government keeps top-secret information about extraterrestrial life. They also claim the area is home to frequent UFO sightings.

The Air Force has warned UFO enthusiasts planning to attend that the military “stands ready to protect America and its assets.”
