Alex Morgan pretends to sip tea after World Cup goal over England
U.S. women’s national soccer team star Alex Morgan on Tuesday celebrated a goal she scored in the World Cup semifinal by pretending to sip tea, a nod to England, which went on to lose the match 2-1.
The team’s official Twitter account shared a photo of Morgan’s celebration — on her 30th birthday — and joked that her No. 13 jersey referred to the original 13 American colonies founded by Britain.
No. 13 on her birthday. In honor of those 13 colonies.

{mosads}Morgan scored the goal off a header. Tuesday’s win for the U.S. women’s national team puts it in the finals on Sunday.
“I can’t even express how proud I am,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said after the match, according to ESPN. “It was just such a great effort from everybody. We had some challenges in terms of bodies and everything, and everybody just stepped up. And that’s what this team’s about. So just incredibly proud of them.”
