Miss Tennessee crowns first African American pageant winner
Brianna Mason made history on Saturday night by becoming the first African American woman to be crowned Miss Tennessee in the pageant’s eight-decade history.
Mason, a 23-year-old first grade teacher from Greene County, will now represent the state at the Miss America Scholarship Competition later this year.
She will also receive a $15,000 scholarship, local news outlet WATE reported.

It has already been a historic year for beauty pageants.
The reigning victors of the Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA titles are all black women for the first time in pageant history.
