Boston officials approve application for ‘Straight Pride’ parade

Boston officials approved on Wednesday a group’s application to host a “Straight Pride” parade, Boston.com reported.

Super Happy Fun America, a group that “advocates on behalf of the straight community,” was granted the city’s permission to host the parade on Aug. 31 from noon to 3 p.m.

The group still needs a parade permit, entertainment license and approval from the local police department, according to the outlet.{mosads}

The application was reportedly submitted by Super Happy Fun America President John Hugo, who wrote on the group’s website that “straight people are an oppressed majority” that will “fight for the rights of straights everywhere.”

The Straight Pride event says it aims to celebrate heterosexuality in a city that’s believed to have one of the largest LGBTQ communities in the nation.

Boston held its LGBT Pride parade on June 8.

Earlier this month, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the city “cannot deny a permit based on an organization’s values” but added that “whatever outside groups” may try [to] do, our values won’t change.”

Walsh said he will not attend the Straight Pride parade, according to Boston.com.

The three male organizers named former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos the event’s grand marshal after initially designating actor Brad Pitt as the parade’s mascot.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has mocked the parade, tweeting: “Will ‘Straight Pride’ be a Freaky Friday type situation where all of our history books, movies, stories, media, news, etc feature mostly LGBTQ+ people & perspectives?”

Fox Nation host and conservative commentator Tomi Lahren earlier this month bemoaned what she called an “open season on straight white men” as the group struggled to attain a permit for its parade.
