New York City park to transform stairs into the largest Pride flag in the city

In celebration of Pride Month, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park will be transforming its well-known staircase into what is being called the “largest Pride flag” in the city.

The two-week long celebration will feature a variety of festivities and events for people of all ages, including Drag Queen Story Hour, picnics and “VideoOut,” which is an onsite session the park said will capture coming out stories all day.

“As one of the nation’s only monuments dedicated to essential human freedoms, FDR Four Freedoms State Park’s Pride flag installation serves as both a symbol of solidarity with the LGTBQ community and a reminder of the collective progress still needed to achieve these four freedoms for all,” the park said in a statement.

“Since its inception, America has been marked by the pursuit of equality for all, a struggle that plays out at bus stops, in squares, on sidewalks, in the places where all people, of all backgrounds, can participate in and debate our civic democracy,” the park also said.

“This determination, this purposeful resolve towards universal human rights, served as the basis of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s vision for a better world, within our reach and comprised of four freedoms, and as the basis of Four Freedoms Park Conservancy’s mission to foster engagement and discussion around the meaning of freedom today,” it added.
