Warriors coach Steve Kerr wears ‘Vote For Our Lives’ shirt, speaks out against Virginia Beach shooting

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wore a “Vote For Our Lives” T-shirt before Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, two days after a mass shooting in Virginia.

At a pregame news conference in Toronto, Kerr said the shirt “has everything to do with the tragedy in Virginia Beach.”

{mosads}“The shirt is a reminder that the only way we can get out of this mess is to actually vote, and to vote for people who are going to be willing to create some change in our gun laws in our country,” he said, according to The Washington Post.

Twelve people were fatally shot in Virginia Beach on Friday. Police named 40-year-old DeWayne Craddock, a municipal employee who submitted his resignation earlier that day, as the suspect. Craddock later died in a shootout with police.

Kerr added that the “young generation,” including the advocates behind the March for Our Lives movement, “has really inspired me.”

“So I offer my support to them and to all young people, and hope that we can create a change where we don’t all have to walk around scared we’re going to get shot in our country,” he added.

Kerr has spoken out on gun violence before, calling gun-related deaths in the U.S. “a public health issue.”
