Storm chaser proposes to boyfriend in front of Kansas tornado

A storm chaser went viral this week for a snapshot of his proposal to his boyfriend in front of a massive tornado in Kansas.

Joey Krastel, a meteorologist and risk analyst for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, told NBC News that he always contemplated getting engaged while storm chasing.

“I felt like it would be this perfect way to seal the deal,” Krastel, 27, said.{mosads}

While out on a gravel road in Tipton, Kansas this week, Krastel decided it was time to pop the question to his boyfriend, Chris Scott, with the twister off in the distance.

“It all just kind of came together and happened so quickly,” Krastel said. “I was like ‘OK, this is it.’ ”

Krastel posted a picture of the proposal on Twitter, where it quickly went viral, gaining nearly 14,000 likes as of Friday evening.

“The 2 loves of my life,” he wrote. 

Krastel told NBC News that the tornado actually moved closer to their group during the celebrations.

“I called to my friends to get back in the car,” Krastel said. “I was just so emotional just because it was my happiest place, being with him next to the storms.”

Storms ravaged northeastern Kansas on Tuesday, prompting the National Weather Service to declare a “tornado emergency” for several counties and the Kansas City metropolitan area.

President Trump declared a state of emergency in the state and ordered federal assistance to deal with the aftermath.
