GOP senator rescued from Camelback Mountain in Arizona after injuring ankle

Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) was rescued from Camelback Mountain in Arizona on Thursday after injuring his ankle during a workout, his office said.

Moran, 65, is recovering at a hospital after the incident Thursday morning, local news outlet AZ Family reported.

Video of the rescue from the outlet shows Phoenix fire crews working to carry Moran from the mountain.

A spokesperson for Moran told The Hill that the senator injured his ankle “during a morning workout.”{mosads}

“He is in good spirits and extends his thanks to the Phoenix Fire Department for assisting him this morning,” the spokesperson added.

Moran is expected to return to Kansas on Friday.

The senator was in the Phoenix area to meet with the Drug Enforcement Administration officials and take a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border.
