Parkland students dedicate page in yearbook to therapy dogs for shooting survivors

The yearbook staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed in a shooting last year, dedicated a page in the school yearbook to the therapy dogs that helped survivors cope after the tragedy. 

The school yearbook, called the Aerie, shared a photo of the 14 dogs in a tweet earlier this month that has since been making the rounds online.

In another tweet earlier this week, the yearbook staff shared another photo of one of the dogs with the end-of-year keepsake.{mosads}

The school received its first therapy dog, a 3-month-old female Bernese mountain dog–poodle mix named River, last July.

At the time, Diana Haneski, a library media specialist at the high school who had adopted the dog, said “River’s gonna help in the future with a lot of struggles and trouble, and I’m trying to get myself ready to go back, so this is definitely going to help me.”

During the February attack last year, Haneski had helped shelter 50 students as a gunman opened fire on teens and teachers.
