George Conway, attorney and husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, called for Congress to remove President Trump.

“What the Mueller report disturbingly shows, with crystal clarity, is that today there is a cancer in the presidency: President Donald J. Trump,” the frequent Trump critic wrote in a Thursday Washington Post op-ed.

“Congress now bears the solemn constitutional duty to excise that cancer without delay,” he added.

Conway made the case that the newly released Mueller report shows that Trump committed offenses worthy of removal from office.{mosads}

“The investigation that Trump tried to interfere with here, to protect his own personal interests, was in significant part an investigation of how a hostile foreign power interfered with our democracy,” he wrote. “If that’s not putting personal interests above a presidential duty to the nation, nothing is.”

Conway also said that former President Nixon, who resigned amid the Watergate scandal, was “passive” compared to Trump.

Democrats have been split Thursday on whether impeachment is an avenue they would pursue. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that “impeachment is not worthwhile at this point.” However, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) reiterated his support for impeaching the president and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said she would sign on to a resolution calling for an investigation into whether Trump committed impeachable offenses.

The Justice Department Thursday released a redacted version of the Mueller report, which detailed the results of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into whether Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
