The student newspaper of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was honored Monday during the presentation of the Pulitzer Prizes for its obituaries for students after the deadly 2018 school shooting.

Pulitzer administrator Dana Canedy opened the presentation of this year’s awards with words of praise for the Eagle Eye, noting the bravery and commitment of the student journalists who submitted obituaries of the 17 killed when a gunman opened fire last February at the high school in Parkland, Fla.

“There is hope in their example,” she said Monday.
