Girl Scouts raise funds to get feminine hygiene locker installed in school bathrooms

A group of Girl Scouts in Ohio has gone viral after they fought to have their school install a locker for feminine hygiene products in their school bathrooms, using cookie sale revenue to pay for the move.

Reagan, one of the troops behind the initiative, told “Good Morning America” that she and her fellow scouts came up with the idea because their school doesn’t allow them to carry bags and their uniforms don’t have pockets.

{mosads}She said girls were required to go to the school nurse when they were in need of feminine hygiene products.

That’s when the group of girls said they presented the idea of lockers with cubbies for each girl to hold her products in the girls’ bathrooms to the parent-teacher organization. The organization approved the idea in December.

The Girl Scouts raised money for the locker using some of the money they earned selling cookies. They said they also teamed up to install the locker themselves.

Alexis, another Girl Scout who was involved in the project, told “Good Morning America” that the “project is important to us because it encourages girls more, and [makes] them feel comfortable at school and confident.”

“And it’s really fun to help out girls in our community,” she continued.

Reagan told “Good Morning America” they “never really set out to really change the world with our project, but we knew that it could make a world of a difference to the girls in our school.”

She also said, “it would be amazing if this became the standard in all schools, and maybe baby steps of something even greater.”

Jen Strickler, the girls’ troop leader, told the outlet that it was inspiring to see the girls “come together and really look to see how to make things better and how to make the world a little bit better in certain ways.”

The Girl Scouts of the USA asked The Hill that the girls’ school name and last names not be released for privacy reasons.
