At least 25 people were killed and 47 were injured Wednesday after a train crashed into a barrier at a train station in Egypt, officials said, according to The Associated Press

The train’s fuel tank reportedly exploded, causing a fire after it struck the barrier at a high speed. The reason for the crash was not immediately clear, but investigators are looking into many possible causes, a general railway inspector told the AP.

He said the collision could indicate “negligence from the driver and supervisors.”

The incident took place at the Ramses Station in Cairo, which is in one of the city’s busiest areas.

Cairo Railroad hospital chief Mohammed Said told the AP that the number of fatalities could increase. Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said many of the injured were in critical condition and had sustained severe burns.

Egypt’s railways have a history of incidents. In 2017, there were 1,793 train incidents according to an official figure, the AP reported.
