David Hogg calls for Michelle Obama to run in 2020: ‘End this madness’

Activist David Hogg on Wednesday urged former first lady Michelle Obama to run for president in 2020.

“I wish @MichelleObama would run for president and end this madness already,” Hogg, who survived last year’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., said on Twitter.

Hogg has become an outspoken advocate for gun control and critic of the GOP in the year since a shooting at his high school left 14 students and three faculty members dead.

He and other students at the school helped lead a national movement to protest gun violence after the shooting, which occurred on Feb. 14, 2018.

Hogg helped organize the March for Our Lives rally that included thousands of demonstrators across the country. He also participated in a 59-day nationwide get-out-the-vote summer bus tour called Road to Change.

The 18-year-old has said he is interested in running for Congress when he’s eligible, and in September he told BuzzFeed News that he was interested in speaking with President Trump.

Hogg told CNN’s “New Day” on Wednesday that Democrats and Republicans need to work together to reduce gun violence.

“We have to work to make sure we’re stopping shooters before they get on campus,” he said. “We have to be working together, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans, attacking the source of evil and being able to stop and reduce harm.”
Obama insisted in December that she has no desire to run for president.
