Texas man organizes ‘search party’ event to look for San Antonio wall Trump referenced
A man from San Antonio has organized a “search party” dedicated to finding a wall in the city that President Trump referenced over the weekend.
While speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump boasted about the effectiveness of border walls while specifically mentioning San Antonio.
“Everybody knows that walls work,” Trump said. “You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places. They go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately.”{mosads}
The Houston Chronicle points out that while San Antonio’s overall crime rate has gone down in recent years, it cannot be attributed to any type of border wall. The city is roughly 150 miles away from the U.S.-Mexico border.
Still, San Antonio resident Manuel Lopez Jr. has created a Facebook event to organize a search party to find the nonexistent wall following the president’s remarks.
More than 3,000 people have responded that they are “going” to the Facebook event, while 15,000 have said they are “interested” in attending.
“I propose that we all meet up and find this wall! We as San Antonians deserve to know where this wall is at and deserve some answers!” Lopez wrote on the event page.
Lopez goes on to write that he hopes the effort will answer important questions about the wall, like: “Who paid for the wall? Why were we not made aware of this wall?” and “Where exactly is this wall?”
“Together, we will find this wall!” Lopez added.
The event is scheduled to take place on May 5. Lopez wrote that he hopes to “see everyone there as we celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the ‘Great Wall of San Antonio.’ ”
