Stormy Daniels sues Ohio police officers, accuses them of arresting her for political reasons

Adult-film star Stormy Daniels is reportedly suing Ohio vice squad officers, alleging that they arrested her for political reasons at a strip club last July. 

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, filed the federal civil lawsuit against the officers with her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, on Monday, according to ABC News.

{mosads}The lawsuit accuses the officers of false arrest, malicious prosecution and civil conspiracy, the news network reported. 

ABC News notes Clifford also claims that the officers, whom she alleges support President Trump, did research on her before conducting the arrest. 

She is asking for a declaration from the court that the arrest, which occurred in Columbus, Ohio, violated her constitutional rights. Daniels is asking for $1 million in compensatory damages, as well as more than $1 million in punitive damages.

“Stormy wants justice for her unlawful arrest done for political purposes,” Avenatti said in a statement to The Hill.

Daniels was arrested during a performance at an Ohio strip club last year on three counts of illegally touching a patron. A 2007 Ohio law states that an employee who regularly appears nude or seminude at a sexually oriented business is not permitted to touch anybody not related to them while nude or seminude. 

She was charged after allegedly touching three different undercover vice detectives.

Charges against her were dismissed just hours after the arrest was made. Avenatti in July said the arrest “was a setup & politically motivated.”

Daniels has gained attention for her claim that she had an affair with Trump in 2006, which Trump denies. Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a payment to her before the 2016 presidential election to keep her quiet about the alleged affair. 

Daniels filed a lawsuit against Trump and Cohen last year to void the nondisclosure agreement she signed as part of the deal.
