Ocasio-Cortez posts new dancing video outside congressional office

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) tweeted a video of her dancing to Edwin Starr’s “War” outside her office, a day after she was sworn in to Congress.

“I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in the Friday morning tweet.

“Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!”

{mosads}In the video, Ocasio-Cortez could be seen shimmying outside of her new office before entering the room with other staffers.

The video comes after an old video of her dancing in college resurfaced, in what was seen as an attack against her.

“It is not normal for elected officials to have a reputation for dancing well and I’m happy to be one,” the New York Democrat told The Hill on Friday.

“I think it is just funny what is considered to be disqualifying. It is unsurprising to me that Republicans would think having fun should be disqualifying or illegal,” she continued.

The resurfaced college video showed Ocasio-Cortez dancing on a roof with other students at Boston University. It spread online shortly before she was sworn in on Thursday.

A tweet from the account @AnonymousQ1776, which has since been deleted, had initially surfaced the edited clip from eight years ago, which showed the students imitating dancing scenes from popular films from the 1980s.

But the video also prompted others to fiercely defend the new congresswoman’s moves online.

Fellow freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) posted a tweet supporting Ocasio-Cortez.

“If we can’t dance it’s not our revolution,” Omar said, referring to the Ocasio-Cortez tweet with her new dancing video.
