Trump ‘baby blimp’ flies over Chicago women’s rally ahead of midterms

The “baby blimp” depicting President Trump as a diapered infant flew over a Women’s March rally in Chicago on Saturday morning.

The weekend march, dubbed “March to the Polls 2018,” was organized to encourage female political activism ahead of next month’s midterm elections, the Chicago Tribune reported.

{mosads}A key feature was the 20-foot-tall balloon flying above the crowd, along with small “baby Trump” balloons that were made available to children.

The original balloon, which depicted Trump as a diaper-clad baby carrying a cell phone, first made an appearance in the United Kingdom when thousands protested Trump’s visit to London earlier this year.

Since then, replicas of the balloon have been sent to protests across the world, most recently in Washington state, New Jersey and California.

The Chicago march was organized to help new voters, especially young people and immigrants, get involved before the election.

The event featured a parade of first-time voters, as well as a “Voter Village” for people to visit with advocacy groups and political candidates. Early voting sites downtown were also open for people to cast ballots, the Tribune reported.

“People are excited,” organizer Jessica Scheller told the newspaper. “These marches build a sense of community, so if you’ve been feeling disengaged, disenfranchised or disappointed by the way our government has been operating, we encourage you to come out and join us.”
