Melania Trump expected to tour pyramids, Sphinx in Egypt

First lady Melania Trump will end her four-country trip to Africa on Saturday with a tour of the pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Egypt.

The Associated Press reports that the first lady is expected to conduct the tour after a meeting Saturday with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his wife, first lady Entissar Mohameed Amer.

{mosads}Trump landed in the country Saturday morning after traveling in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi. Part of her trip Saturday will aimed at highlighting U.S. efforts to preserve the areas around the pyramids, which are considered historical archaeological sites.

According to the AP, the U.S. has aided efforts in the region to reduce levels of groundwater surrounding the pyramids in order to save the sites from further erosion and damage.

Trump was greeted earlier this week by scores of people in Malawi, including women and children dancing and protesters holding signs referencing her husband’s past remarks.

Among the demonstrators, who were white, one woman held a sign reading “#MELANIATOO,” with the “ME” written in black, bold letters. Another couple held up a sign that read, “Welcome to Malawi. #NOTASHITHOLE!” according to the outlet, a reference to President Trump’s remarks earlier this year in which he reportedly referred to immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and some African nations as coming from “shithole countries,” The Associated Press reported.
