GOP House candidate once called Obama a secret Muslim who sympathizes with terrorists: report

A Republican congressional candidate in California once accused former President Obama of “secretly following” the Islamic faith and of being sympathetic to terrorists.

The candidate, Tim Donnelly, made the comments on his old radio program in December 2015, shortly after a terrorist attack occurred in San Bernardino, Calif., according to CNN’s KFile.

{mosads}Donnelly said Obama refused to say the attack was by “Islamic jihadists” because of a secret faith.

“He comes out and lies because we all know this information was out there, but he didn’t want to insult the faith that I believe he is secretly following, a follower, or he is simply sympathetic because they’re doing the dirty work,” Donnelly, a former state assemblyman who is running for as seat in California’s 8th Congressional District, said on the program, CNN reported.

“Because he ultimately wants to see this country punished and taken down for what he considers to be crimes against the rest of the world,” Donnelly said.

Donnelly is running against incumbent Rep. Paul Cook (R-Calif.) in the November general election, after coming in second to Cook during the June primary. In California’s election format, the top two candidates, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the general election.

Obama has long been accused of holding a secret Muslim faith by people on the right. In fact, there is a Wikipedia page dedicated to conspiracy theories about his religion.

The former president in reality is a practicing Christian who spoke about his faith in a series of addresses, including an annual National Prayer Breakfast.

Donnelly made a number of other accusations unearthed by KFILE, which reported that he had accused Obama of nominating Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General because of her “skin color” or her “anti-American” beliefs. He’s also supported the idea that Obama had members of the Muslim Brotherhood in his administration.

“He is, in whatever way, I don’t know what his connection to the Muslim Brotherhood is, but he’s got them in all kinds of positions of power,” he said on a separate radio show in 2015, according to KFile.

In response to the revelations, Donnelly told CNN that he’s “spent my professional life fighting for the families of people slain by illegal aliens and islamic jihadists.”

“On the anniversary of 9/11, you want to hit me for being too harsh on the assholes who killed my neighbor and the worthless politicians like Paul Cook, who colluded with Obama and the #FakeNewsMedia to let them into our country,” he said.

His campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
