Trump mocks 14-day jail sentence for ex-aide who lied to FBI

It is unclear what Trump is referring to in regards to the $28 million figure. CNN noted that it appeared to be a reference to the cost of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s election interference. 

{mosads} However, the news network reported that Mueller’s investigation has only spent about $7.7 million, citing government estimates. CNN reported the Justice Department has spent at least $17 million investigating Russian meddling into the 2016 elections.

“I don’t know Papadopoulos. I don’t know him,” Trump said to reporters after the sentencing, according to CNN. “I saw him sitting in one picture at a table with me. That’s the only thing I know about him. I don’t know him. But they got him, I guess, on a couple of lies, I guess that’s what they’re saying.”

Papadopoulos on Friday became the first Trump adviser to be sentenced to a jail sentence from Mueller’s probe. His sentencing comes almost a year after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian operatives before the 2016 election.
