Michael Moore compares Trump to Hitler in new movie
Filmmaker Michael Moore reportedly compares President Trump to Adolf Hitler in his new documentary “Fahrenheit 11/9,” which is about the 45th commander in chief and his administration.
Moore reportedly finds similarities between Trump’s November 2016 election victory and the rise of Hitler among the Nazi Party in 1930s Germany, Reuters reported on Thursday.
Trump’s words are superimposed over videos of Hitler speaking at a rally at one point during the film, comparing how strong men rise to positions of power, Reuters said.
{mosads}Moore spoke with reporters before the world premiere of his film to a sold-out audience at the Toronto International Film Festival.
He said he needed to explore the question of “how the hell we got in this mess and how do we get out of it.”
“[Trump has] been around for a long time and we’ve behaved in a certain way for a long time and when you look back now you can see how the road was paved for him,” Moore told reporters.
Moore’s controversial 2004 documentary “Farenheit 9/11,” which explored former President George W. Bush’s War on Terror, is the highest-grossing documentary of all time.
The title of his newest documentary is a reference to the day Trump — and not Hillary Clinton — was officially declared the winner of the election: November 9, 2016.
The documentary filmmaker is a frequent critic of Trump and also appeared in a one-man, anti-Trump Broadway show last year.
The film also includes several topics, such as mass shootings and water contamination in Moore’s hometown of Flint, Mich., Reuters reported.
The trailer released last month shows Moore and some of the prominent public figures of the Trump era: Parkland, Fla., shooting survivors David Hogg and Emma González; former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone; and rising progressive star House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the last president of the United States,” Moore says in a voiceover as Trump stares into the camera.
