Obama congratulates Hawaii for winning Little League World Series

Former President Obama congratulated the Hawaiian Little League team for winning the 2018 World Series on behalf of the United States. 

“You make America very proud,” Obama, who was born in Honolulu, tweeted Sunday, along with a picture of the championship team.

Several other Hawaiian politicians took to social media to congratulate the team.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige (D) praised the boys for “uplifting” the state while Hurricane Lane “was barreling toward the islands.”

“Way to go Boys, you made all of Hawaii proud!” Ige tweeted.

Hawaii’s Democratic Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz also praised the team.

Hawaii topped South Korea 3-0 to win the world championship.

ESPN reported that it is the first Little League World Series title for the state since 2008.
