Rubio, Scott in touch with authorities after reports of Jacksonville shooting

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Gov. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) said they are in touch with law enforcement after reports of a mass shooting in Jacksonville, Florida.

Scott tweeted out Sunday that he has spoken with Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams and offered any state resources Williams might need.

“FDLE [Florida Department of Law Enforcement] is currently responding, and I have spoke to FLDE Commissioner Rick Swearingen regarding the shooting in Jacksonville,” Scott continued, saying law enforcement will continue updating him.

Rubio also said he has reached out to authorities shortly after the news broke.

He warned Floridians to avoid the area, saying the situation is still unfolding.

Rubio additionally tweeted that he has confirmed that the FBI and ATF are coordinating with local authorities to provide federal resources if needed. 

Reports came in earlier Sunday afternoon that a shooting at Jacksonville Landing had taken multiple lives.

The situation is still developing.
