State AG Files Restraining Order Against Blago

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D) asked the state’s Supreme Court to declare Governor Rod Blagoavich (D) “unable to serve” and replace him with Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn (D).

The Attorney General’s office filed a temporary restraining order seeking to prevent Blagojevich from appointing someone to fill Illinois’s Senate vacancy.

“The Supreme Court could do virtually anything” with the complaint, Madigan said, but but argued it is urgent for the sate to have a governor “who can legitimately perform the duties of that office.”

Three days have passed since Blagoavich was arrested for trying to arrange political or financial favors in return his choice to fill President-elect Obama’s senate seat, and Madigan said the ability to conduct matters of state business has been “paralyzed”.

The restraining order did not include anything about impeachment of Blagoiavich and Madigan called it the state’s legislature
