Ted Kennedy’s former Georgetown home up for sale

An estate in Washington’s elite Georgetown neighborhood that was once rented by former Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and his first wife is reportedly going up for sale, with an asking price of $22 million.

Kennedy and his first wife, Joan Kennedy, rented the house sometime after his election to the Senate in the 1960s, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Kennedy, the younger brother of former President John Kennedy and former Sen. Robert Kennedy (D-N.Y.), served in the Senate for 47 years before his death in 2006 at the age of 77.

It is currently owned by former securities attorney Cathy Brentzel, who told the Journal that she is selling the property so she can move to be closer to her 15-year-old daughter in Switzerland.

The original home was built in 1887, and an addition was constructed in the 1950, according to the newspaper, which added that  the interior has been gutted and redone, and new electrical wiring and plumbing has been installed.

The nine-bed, 10-bath home was formerly a part of another prominent Georgetown property, the Evermay Estate, the Journal noted, which was sold to biotech moguls Sachiko Kuno and Ryuji Ueno for $22 million in 2011.
