Rep. John Yarmuth took aim at President Trump as thousands of Londoners took to the streets to protest his visit to the United Kingdom this week.
“Looks like Trump finally got his largest audience ever — period,” the Kentucky Democrat said in a tweet on Friday, while posting a video of protesters swarming the streets in London, hoisting placards in opposition to the U.S. president.

The lawmaker’s joke appears to reference photos showing a smaller crowd at Trump’s inauguration in January 2017 compared to a significantly larger attendance at former President Obama’s 2009 swearing-in.
{mosads}Despite the wide circulation of the photos, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer infamously claimed that Trump’s inauguration had the “largest audience ever.”
Trump has also insisted he had the biggest audience in inauguration history in his first television interview as president, adding that he wouldn’t allow the media to “demean” the crowds he drew. The president often boasts about the size of crowds at his rallies.
Yarmuth, who joined Congress in 2007, made his remarks as more than 60 protests are reportedly scheduled to take place throughout Trump’s four-day working visit to the the U.K., with 50,000 to 100,000 people expected to come out to oppose the U.S. president, according to CNBC.
