Chicago bar bans Trump MAGA hats
A Chicago bar and arcade has banned President Trump’s iconic “Make America Great Again” hats.
Replay Lincoln Park called on Chicagoans to “keep it classy” while implementing a new dress code Saturday that includes the iconic Trump campaign hat.
“After much consternation and consideration and to maintain a ‘classy environment’, Replay Lincoln Park has implemented a new and strictly enforced dress code,” the bar posted on Facebook.
The post showed a photo of the hat and a photo of a man with several facial tattoos.
“No face tattoos, no specific hats, please see below,” the post read. “Let’s keep it classy Chicago. Sincerely, management.”
The bar’s owner, Mark Kwiatkowski, told NBC 5 Chicago that he wrote the Facebook post himself.
“I was just frustrated and I just kind of wanted to make somewhat of a statement,” Kwiatkowski said. “I felt like we did have an opportunity to say something that might draw some attention to this ugliness.”
He told the news station that since his post, the policy has not yet been enforced.
“I think what we would do is kindly ask them to remove [the hat] but we would let them in certainly and maybe have an opportunity to discuss all of this and see their opinions,” Kwiatkowski said of the policy.
The ban came a day after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a Virginia restaurant because of her work for the Trump administration.
Replay Lincoln Park mentioned the restaurant, Red Hen, in another Facebook post.
“We’ve been getting a lot more interactions here on Facebook since we decided to disallow MAGA hats and we’re not sure how to deal with it,” the post on Monday ready. “Hey Red Hen, how are y’all handling it? (And are you interested in any cross-promotion opportunities?)”
