Cook Political Report shifts two House race projections toward Dems

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report on Monday shifted in Democrats’ favor its projections of two House seats in Virginia and Kentucky currently held by Republican lawmakers.

In the 10th District of Virginia represented by Rep. Barbara Comstock, Cook shifted its projection from “toss-up” to leaning in favor of state Sen. Jennifer Wexton (D).

{mosads}Though Virginia’s affluent and well-educated 10th District has been represented by GOP lawmakers for years, the region has recently been trending blue. Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won the district by 10 points in 2016, and Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam carried it by more than 12 points in 2017.

Cook also indicated that in the 6th District of Kentucky, which is currently represented by three-term GOP Rep. Andy Barr, the midterm elections in November are projected to be a “toss-up,” a change from leaning toward Barr getting reelected.

Barr’s Democratic challenger, Amy McGrath, a former Marine pilot who captured national headlines after pulling off an upset primary victory back in May, is betting that her anti-establishment brand will help her bid in an election year that appears to be shaping up to have a Democratic wave.
