Biden says ‘enough is enough’ after Santa Fe school shooting

Former Vice President Joe Biden called on people to take a stand against gun violence Friday after a shooter opened fire in a Santa Fe, Texas, high school, killing 10 people.

Biden tweeted Friday afternoon, “Enough is enough is enough,” after authorities apprehended one suspect and detained a person of interest in their investigation. “Decent people have to take a stand. These are our children,” Biden tweeted.

Biden, considered a top potential Democratic contender in 2020, has been a supporter of the “March for Our Lives” protests for tougher gun laws that were sparked by the Feb. 14 shooting in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 people dead.

The former vice president has also denounced GOP support for gun rights and the “prostitution” of the Second Amendment since the Parkland shooting.

“I think the Second Amendment is being badly interpreted. It’s not consistent with what our Founders intended,” Biden said in March during a discussion with University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann.

“What’s happened here is the nation as a whole has decided it can no longer, in my view, continue to turn a blind eye to the prostitution of the Second Amendment here and can no longer turn a blind eye to the enormous damage being done not just in our schools but on our streets,” he said.

Friday’s shooting occurred hours before another shooting outside of a Georgia high school graduation, where one person was killed and another was injured.

Biden, 75, is not the only Obama administration official to comment on the latest shootings — former Education Secretary Arne Duncan issued a call on Friday for parents to pull students out of school until gun laws are changed to protect kids.

“My family is all in if we can do this at scale. Parents, will you please join us?” he asked.
