Giuliani: There is ‘nothing illegal about looking for dirt on political opponents’

President Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani said on Wednesday that there is nothing illegal about digging up dirt on political opponents, no matter where the information comes from.

“When I ran against them [Democrats] they were looking for dirt on me every day. That’s what you do. Maybe you shouldn’t, but you do. Nothing illegal about that,” Giuliani told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on Wednesday night.

“Even if it comes from a Russian, a German, an American, doesn’t matter,” he continued. 

Giuliani’s comments come as special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election enters its second year. 

{mosads}Giuliani told Ingraham that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia because the campaign never used the information in the 2016 presidential campaign. 

“They never used it,” he said. “They rejected it. If there was collusion with the Russians, they would have used it.” 

The comments came hours after the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday released the transcripts from a slate of interviews with participants of the now-infamous Trump Tower meeting in June of 2016 with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. 

President Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. accepted the meeting with Veselnitskaya, who was described to him as having dirt on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016. 

Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and the Russians, and has referred to Mueller’s probe as a “witch hunt” on numerous occasions.
