Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) attacked Stormy Daniels and her attorney, Michael Avenatti, on Thursday, accusing them of fabricating allegations against President Trump for monetary gain and calling Avenatti an “ambulance chaser.”
Daniels, an adult-film actress whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is suing Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, to void a nondisclosure agreement that bars her from speaking publicly about an alleged affair with Trump more than a decade ago. She and Avenatti are also suing both Cohen and Trump for defamation.
{mosads}”What do you think [Daniels is] about, and her lawyer, who’s an ambulance chaser?” Giuliani, who recently joined Trump’s legal team, asked in an interview on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.” “Money, money, money, money, money. They sold out cheap, because the allegations aren’t true.”
“She’s written a letter and signed it, saying was untrue. The president has said it was untrue,” he added.
Giuliani revealed on Wednesday night that Trump reimbursed Cohen for that payment, contradicting the president’s previous claim that he had no knowledge of the transaction with Daniels.
Avenatti has become a high-profile figure in the case, frequently appearing on television news shows to talk about the lawsuit and the allegations against Trump.
Cohen has acknowledged that he paid Daniels $130,000 as part of the nondisclosure agreement but had claimed that it was his own money and he was not reimbursed.
Trump confirmed in a series of tweets on Thursday morning that he did reimburse Cohen through a monthly retainer and insisted that Daniels’s allegations of an affair were “false and extortionist.” He also said that the $130,000 payment was not tied to his political campaign, despite it coming weeks before the presidential election.
