Netflix compares Trump’s VA controversy to ‘Riverdale’ plot

Netflix compared the scandal surrounding President Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Veterans Affairs to teen television drama “Riverdale” on Wednesday.

Netflix’s tweet references Sen. John Tester’s (D-Mont.) claim that nominee Dr. Ronny Jackson earned the nickname “the candy man” in the White House for his willingness to hand out prescription drugs.

“Riverdale is a documentary,” the streaming service wrote on Twitter, along with a screenshot of “Riverdale” character Jughead learning that “most of the drugs in Riverdale come from the Candyman.”

The tweet came as Jackson, the White House doctor and President Trump’s pick to lead Veterans Affairs, faces scrutiny over allegations that he created a hostile work environment, drank on the job and overprescribed drugs. 

Tester, the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, said in an interview on CNN on Tuesday that he had been told that, during overseas trips, Jackson “would go down the [aisle] of the airplane and say, ‘All right, who wants to go to sleep?’ and hand out the prescription drugs like they were candy.”

That allegedly earned Jackson the nickname “the candy man,” Tester said.
