NRA political arm has biggest fundraising month in 15 years

The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) political arm in March experienced its biggest fundraising month in 15 years, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

The NRA’s Political Victory Fund brought in $2.4 million during the month, marking the most money raised by the fund since June 2003.

The majority of the donations originated from small donors who gave less than $200 to the organization.

The total amount of money raised in March is $1.5 million more than what the fund brought in during the same time period in 2017, and $1.6 million more than it did in February. 

The fundraising haul came just one month after the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which left 17 people dead and numerous others injured.

Student survivors of the shooting have led a national debate for stricter gun laws.

They sparked the emergence of the “March for Our Lives” movement, which was largely generated by student survivors across the country. 

Millions of Americans across the country took to the streets last month to protest mass shootings and advocate for stricter gun control policies in the wake of the shooting. 

Organizers of the march raised money through the March for Our Lives Action Fund, and brought in more than $3 million through a GoFundMe campaign online, according to CNN.
