Tauscher Having a Tough Time Getting the House in Order

Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.), in the presiding chair during Friday’s debate over the bailout bill, can’t seem to get the House in order.

As the debate over the bill begins, she finds herself repeatedly having to bang the gavel. (Interestingly, she’s using the gavel’s handle instead of the head.) Several times already, she has warned members and staff to take their conversations off the floor or be removed.

Remember, folks, the longer the floor takes to shush, the longer the debate will be. The debate should last 90 minutes, which puts the vote right around 12:20 p.m.
