Trevor Noah unveils first recruitment ad for Trump’s ‘Space Force’

“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah mocked President Trump’s proposed military “Space Force,” airing a satiric “recruitment ad” on his show.

“Turns out President Trump isn’t just worried about illegal aliens, he’s worried about real aliens too,” Noah said on Wednesday.

Trump said during a Tuesday speech at the San Diego Marine Corps base that he sees outer space as a “war-fighting domain” that would require military protection.

“The Daily Show” released a recruitment video for the potential team.

“If you’ve ever looked up at the night sky and thought ‘I wish I could shoot something up there,’ then you’re the right man for Space Force,” the ad says.

The ad continues, saying that even though no one is sure what the Space Force will do yet, they can still teach all kinds of space skills.

“You’ll shoot laser cannons. You’ll learn evasive deep-space maneuvers and advanced space combat like maybe throwing grenades into the sun,” the ad says.

Trump said he originally joked about the potential space team but decided it would be a good idea.

“You know, I was saying it the other day — because we’re doing a tremendous amount of work in space — I said, ‘Maybe we need a new force, we’ll call it the Space Force.’ And I was not really serious, and then I said, ‘What a great idea, maybe we’ll have to do that. That could happen,’” he said.

“So the idea started as a joke and now Trump decided to actually do it?” Noah laughed. “I feel like this is exactly how he decided to run for president.”

He said Trump should be “scolded” for trying to start a war in space before he finishes his wars on earth.

“He’s got the attention span of a 5-year-old,” Noah said. “He’s like ‘I want space!’ and someone needs to be like ‘Finish your Afghanistan and then you can have space, Donald.’”

Leaders for the Air Force avoided questions about Trump’s proposal on Wednesday, but a dedicated military space arm has been floated as an urgent need for the U.S. in the face of similar forces in Russia and China.
