Poll: Slim plurality pick Red Sox to win the Series

I couldn’t resist this one after posting on Rasmussen’s Final Four poll yesterday and having just moved back to D.C. from Boston. On Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, a slim majority say the Boston Red Sox will win the World Series this year in a new Rasmussen poll.

Twenty-two percent of participants in Rasmussen’s Prediction Challenge said the Sox will win. Just behind them was the New York Yankees with 19 percent. The defending champs, the Philadelphia Phillies, earned third place with 16 percent.

A quarter of respondents did say that the Phillies will win the National League pennant, though the same percentage also picked the Chicago Cubs. Sixteen percent said the New York Mets will win the pennant.

In the American League, 42 percent said the Red Sox will win the pennant and 28 percent said the American League East rival Yankees will prevail.

Of course, last year 36 percent of respondents in the same poll said the Red Sox will win the series and we all know how that turned out.

Happy Opening Day!
