Pirate update: FBI is now involved in negotiations

Negotiators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been called in to help negotiate the release of the Maersk Alabama captain that is currently being held hostage by Somali pirates, MSNBC just reported.

The news appears to conflict with earlier reporting that Maersk was seeking to negotiate the captain’s release without the help of the Navy. The captain, Richard Phillips, was taken hostage on Wednesday.
