Paterson to introduce same-sex marriage bill
Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) will announce Thursday that he is introducing legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in the state, the New York Times is reporting. The decision comes on the heels of a court decision in Iowa and a legislative action in Vermont legalizing gay marriage in those states.
The move is controversial with gay activists, who worry that they might not have the votes yet for passage.
Paterson has said previously that he simply wants to see the bill debated to gauge where legislators stand.
