Ann Romney Treated for Early Stage Breast Cancer

Ann Romney, wife of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), is being treated for early stage breast cancer, the once potential First Lady said today in an email.

Romney said she had been diagnosed with “Ductal Carcinoma In Sutu” during a mammogram, for which she was treated with a lumpectomy on Friday. The procedure removes the tumor from the breast without removing any additional tissue, unlike a masectomy.

“Mitt and I feel fortunate to have caught this so early,” Romney said. “And, it reminds us how important it is for women to have regular mammograms.”

Romney said the procedure will not require hospitalization, and sent out holiday wishes in the email.
