Israel picks American to be U.S. ambassador

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tapped an American as his ambassador to the United States, Reuters reports.

Michael Oren is a U.S. immigrant and a senior fellow at a right-leaning Israeli think tank. He was raised in New Jersey and has testified before Congress on Middle East issues in the past.

Oren’s selection comes at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee meets for its conference this weekend and Netanyahu prepares to head back to Washington later in May.
