Singer kneels after performing national anthem at Brooklyn Nets game

Singer Justine Skye took a knee after performing the national anthem at Friday night’s home opener for the Brooklyn Nets, the latest in a series of demonstrations during the anthem at professional sports games.

Multiple reporters at the NBA game noted that Skye took a knee. The Associated Press reported that fans booed her for kneeling.

The national anthem singer here in Brooklyn took a knee at the end of her performance. More boos than cheers from the fans.

{mosads}The New York Daily News reported that the Nets locked arms while Skye sang.

Skye posted a video to her Instagram account showing her kneeling as she finished the song.

 

Got a bit shaky at the end.. was pretty uneasy about singing the anthem and probably won’t ever be invited to sing it again but I had to take a knee for the opening game in my city and let my voice be heard. We will not be silenced #blacklivesmatter

Several national anthem performers have taken a knee after singing the anthem in recent weeks, including at an Oakland Raiders game and a Detroit Lions game.

The demonstrations follow weeks of NFL players kneeling or linking arms during the playing of the national anthem. President Trump attacked players for not standing, referring to any player that kneels as a “son of a bitch” and calling on team owners to fire players who don’t stand.
