Rumsfeld used Bible verses on Iraq memos

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld headlined top-secret memos on the war in Iraq with Bible verses, GQ’s Robert Draper reveals in a new profile.

The cover sheet for a memo on April 10, 2003, for example, shows a picture of U.S. soldiers tearing down the infamous statue of Saddam Hussein accompanied by a verse from the book of Psalms: “Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him…To deliver their soul from death.”

GQ has posted a slideshow of ten such memos.

Other memos featured proverbs like “Commit the LORD to whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

The revelation is sure to anger those who believe America has infused the war on terrorism with a religious zeal.
